Challenge Áskorunin

Listaháskóli Íslands teaches every art form under one roof: architecture, design, film, arts education, fine art, performing arts and music. Around that sit 25 study programmes, a library, research, a public events calendar and years of student work.

Each part had grown its own corner online. The task was one website that holds all of it, reads as one school, works as well in English as in Icelandic, and carries the new 2026 identity.

Listaháskóli Íslands kennir allar listgreinar undir einu þaki: arkitektúr, hönnun, kvikmyndalist, listkennslu, myndlist, sviðslistir og tónlist. Þar við bætast 25 námsleiðir, bókasafn, rannsóknir, viðburðadagskrá og áralangt safn nemendaverkefna.

Hver hluti hafði komið sér upp sínu horni á netinu. Verkefnið var einn vefur sem rúmmar allt þetta, lesist sem einn skóli, virkar jafn vel á íslensku og ensku og ber nýtt auðkenni frá 2026.

A slim top bar lists UGLA, CANVAS and IS/EN; below sit the logo, menu items like Námið and Rannsóknir, and a black "Sækja um" button. The dark hero photo shows dancers bowing in a row behind the white heading and a short description.

Approach Nálgunin

We built the site on a design system drawn from LHI’s 2026 identity: the LHI abc headline face, UT Sarvatrik for everything else, black and white with five accent colours used one at a time.

Content is organised around departments and study programmes. Every programme has its own page; news, events and student projects are tagged by department, and the events calendar filters by department and date. The student projects archive and the library database sit in the same structure, so a visitor can move from a department to its work, its programmes and its events without leaving the pattern.

Vefurinn byggir á hönnunarkerfi sem sprettur af auðkenni Listaháskólans frá 2026: fyrirsagnaletrinu LHI abc, UT Sarvatrik fyrir allt annað, svarthvítum grunni og fimm áherslulitum sem eru notaðir einn í einu.

Efnið er skipulagt eftir deildum og námsleiðum. Hver námsleið fær sína síðu; fréttir, viðburðir og nemendaverkefni eru merkt deildum og viðburðadagatalið má sía eftir deild og dagsetningu. Safn nemendaverkefna og gagnamiðlun bókasafnsins falla inn í sömu uppbyggingu, svo að gestur getur fært sig frá deild yfir í verk hennar, námsleiðir og viðburði án þess að týna þræðinum.

Close crop of the Listaháskóli Íslands homepage, shown as a white panel with a soft shadow on a pale background. A bold heading reads "Sjö deildir, eitt samfélag." Below it, seven rows separated by hairlines list the departments, each numbered in small grey type, with a short line of fine print underneath about programmes and student numbers.A phone screen on a pale grey background shows the Listaháskóli Íslands homepage. The heading "Nemendaverkefni" sits above a small label, followed by stacked image cards. The first shows an architectural model with grass-covered roofs, credited to the architecture department and dated 2026. Below, a woman in loose black clothing stands against a light backdrop, tagged design department.

Five phone screens of the Listaháskóli Íslands homepage sit side by side at varying depths on a pale blue background. From the left: black and green panels on research and open courses, a numbered list of seven departments with degree tags, a centred item headed "Sviðslistadeild opnar fyrir umsóknir", student project photographs, and a filterable events calendar.

To the right, seven colour swatches labelled Ink, Paper, Sky, Salmon, Green, Plum and Rust with hex codes. Below, homepage components: a news card with watercolour illustration, an event row and a department row reading “Arkitektúr”.

Outcome Niðurstaðan

The new lhi.is brings 25 study programmes, 570 student projects, more than 1,200 library records and the school’s events into one structure, with every department one step from the homepage.

The same layout works from a phone to a wide screen, and the site runs in Icelandic and English throughout.

The desktop view carries the heading "Sviðslistadeild opnar fyrir umsóknir", body text and two black buttons, with a top navigation bar. A phone and tablet repeat the same content beside a photo of dancers under blue stage lights, with department names running along the bottom.
